20020401: Contour Question

James,

To create a grid file of surface or upperair data for
use with the full range of gridded data programs in GEMPAK,
first create a grid file for the data to be placed in using
the GDCFIL program.

Then, use the objective analysis programs OABSFC and OABSND
for surface and upperair data respectively to perform a
Barnes analysis to interpolate the data to grid point locations.

Finally, you can access your gridded parameters in the GD programs.

More information about this process can be found in the online
tutorial:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/gempak/tutorial/barnes.html

Additionally, I provided a surface program SFCNTR to provide a
quick way of contouring some surface parameters through the
Barnes gridding routines and gdcntr display. However, the access
the full range of grid diagnostics of GFUNC/GPARM in the GD programs
you have to run the OA routines to grid your data.
