20011031: dcgrib problem at AFIT



Anne,

If he is running GEMPAK 5.4 as the path appears to
say below, then he does not have dcgrib2 which would be preferable
since you can run 1 copy of the decoder for all grib data rather
than having a separate dcgrib pattern/action for each data set.

The problem with the eta212 grids is likely that he has hit the
default maximum number of grids in a file, and will have to use the
-m flag to the dcgrib decoder to allow more space. 
The default number of slots for grids in a file was 2000 back when
5.4 was released. I would suggest using "-m 10000" for the ETA
if a single pattern for all the different ETA grids includes the 212 grids
(which it does below).

As the model runs now have more forecast times, it creates more grids per
run. This is something I account for in new releases- but sites still running
old versions will have to monitor this more diligently.
