9/12 Changes in MADIS aircraft data restrictions and access methods

MADIS real-time aircraft users,

In order to fulfill agreements with the airlines providing data, the
following changes will be made on Wednesday, September 12th. Here are
the changes in the data availability:

- NOAA and other U.S. goverment users who are receiving data on
computers in the .gov domain will continue to receive the same data
  as before.

- All other users will no longer receive TAMDAR data from Mesaba Airlines.

Because of these changes, some users will need to make modifications
in how they access the data, depending on various factors. You can go
ahead and make these changes at any time, there is no need to wait
until 9/12.

No Changes Required
-------------------

- NOAA ftp users with <user>_madis_noaa usernames.

- Ftp or ldm users other than U.S. government (.gov domain).

Changes are Required
--------------------

- NOAA ftp users with <user>_madis_research usernames will need to use new
<user>_madis_noaa accounts. These have already been setup, and use the
same passwords as the existing research account. Simply change your
  script from "_research" to "_noaa".

- U.S. government ftp users with .gov domain computers with
<user>_madis_research usernames will also need to use new accounts
that have been setup, in this case, change from "_research" to
"_gov". Again, the passwords remain the same.

- NOAA and U.S. government (.gov domain) ldm users should change their
ldmd.conf and pqact.conf to request new products:

  Feed type: FSL4
  Products: FSL.CompressedNetCDF.MADIS.gov_acars
              FSL.CompressedNetCDF.MADIS.gov_acarsProfiles

Please let me know if you have any questions or problems getting
things squared away.

Thanks,

Mike

p.s. Note that for archive users (data at least 48 hours old) all will
still have access to the TAMDAR data, including Mesaba as well as other
new airlines. Currently, a second airline as been added: Pen Air in
Alaska.
