Hi Marek,

>I've downloaded part of missing data from the unidata2.ssec.wisc.edu site
>for GOES-10 all 3 channels (VIS, IR-2 chan and IR-4 chan,which I understand
>as having extension .goes10vis, .goes10irs and .goes10irl appropriately; am I
>right?)

Yes, you are correct.

>However, for GOES-12, I only found overthere files from VIS and chan 4, from
>those that I am interested in (extensions .goes12vis and .goes12irs)

A quick check for today shows that there are a full set of the GOES-12
images that were sent in the UNIWISC IDD feed:

200503142215.goes12vis 200503141615.goes12wv 200503140945.goes12irs
200503142215.goes12ir 200503141615.goes12co2 200503140945.goes12wv
200503142215.goes12irs 200503141545.goes12vis 200503140945.goes12co2
200503142215.goes12wv 200503141545.goes12irs 200503140915.goes12irs
200503142215.goes12co2 200503141545.goes12ir 200503140915.goes12ir
 ...

The sufficies, wavelendths, and channels for GOES-12 are:

file name wavelength channel
ccyymmddhhmm.goes12vis 0.65 um 1
ccyymmddhhmm.goes12irs 3.9 um 2
ccyymmddhhmm.goes12wv 6.5 um 3
ccyymmddhhmm.goes12ir 10.7 um 4
ccyymmddhhmm.goes12co2 13.3 um 6

The sufficies, wavelendths, and channels for GOES-West are:

ccyymmddhhmm.goes12vis 0.65 um 1
ccyymmddhhmm.goes12irs 3.9 um 2
ccyymmddhhmm.goes12wv 6.8 um 3
ccyymmddhhmm.goes12ir 10.7 um 4
ccyymmddhhmm.goes12irl 12.0 um 5

>I haven't found overthere a single
>file with the extension .goes12irl, which I assume suppose to be IR chan-4,
>from GOES-12 satellite? Am I right?

'irl' is used for GOES-West; it is the 12.0 um channel. GOES-12, on
the other hand, does not have a 12.0 um channel. Instead, it has a
13.3 um channel which was chosen to lie in a CO2 absorption band.

>Is there some other way of getting this missing data?

Please let us know if you still think that there is missing data after
looking at the FTP repository again. If there is, please let us know
which days have data you are missing, so we can investigate.

>Thanks a lot.

No worries.

Cheers,

Tom

Thank you, Tom

Thanks to your comment, now I have it right! Before, I mistakenly
took files with the extension ".goesnnirl" for the channnel 4,
10.7 um 4, in which I was interested in. Now I know, these are
files with the extension "goesnnir", which are still on this server.
I am not interested in the channel 5 or 6, but I will keep this
for future reference, should the need arise.
Take good care. How is the weather like in Boulder?
         Cheers, Marek
