CPTEC TDF -> McIDAS AREA imagery compared to SSEC McIDAS AREA imagery

NOTES

Imagery comparisons

CPTEC vs SSEC GOES-12 Image Comparisons for 20060710.1445 UTC
Channel CPTEC Image SSEC Image Scatter Plot of Brightness
Visible 0.65 um Visible 0.65 um Visible 0.65 um Visible
Water Vapor 6.5 um Water Vapor 6.5 um Water Vapor 6.5 um Water Vapor
Thermal IR 10.7 um Thermal Infrared 10.7 um Thermal Infrared 10.7 um Thermal Infrared

Preliminary Comments:

  1. the CPTEC images being sent appear to conform to the AREA file format nicely
  2. the comparison of the navigation between the images is very good
  3. VIS images: it appears that the pixel values in the CPTEC images are scaled so that the lowest values seen maps to 0 brightness and the highest values seen maps to 255 brightness
  4. WV images: like the VIS images, it appears that the pixel values in the CPTEC images are improperly mapped to the 0 - 255 brightness range
  5. IR images: the comparison for the thermal IR (10.7 um) is the best of the group, but still exhibits suspect brightness mapping
