Metadata Resources

Summaries of the Dublin Core workshops show evolution of metadata issues since 1995, in attempting to develop consensus on a core set of interdisciplinary metadata elements for networked resources:
  1. Metadata: the Foundations for Resource Description , March 1995, Dublin, Ohio
  2. The Warwick Metadata Workshop: A Framework for the Deployment of Resource Description, April 1996, Warwick University, UK
  3. Image Description on the Internet: A Summary of the CNI/OCLC Image Metadata Workshop, September 1996, Dublin, Ohio
  4. The 4th Dublin Core Metadata Workshop Report, March 1997, Canberra, Australia
  5. DC-5: The Helsinki Metadata Workshop, October 1997, Helsinki, Finland

One outgrowth of the Dublic Core Workshops and other metadata efforts is the W3C Metadata work on defining a Resource Description Framework (RDF) for metadata representation.

I gave a talk on Metadata and RDF at one of the Unidata Brainstorm sessions in May 1998.
