NetCDF Release Schedule
This document contains a tentative release schedule for planned
netCDF features. The schedule presented here may be changed without notice.
Version 3.5.1 - February 2004
Version 3.6.0_beta1 - April 2004
- Add 64-bit offset format (from patch), including constants for
F77, F90, C++.
- Testing 64-bit file offset format in Fortran and C.
- Revised documentation, including switch to texinfo, sections on:
format guidance, new mode functions, new 64-bit offset
mode.
- New functions to set and get default file create format
(i.e. netCDF classic or netCDF 64-bit offset format).
Version 3.6.0 - October 2004
- Added error checking for users attempting to exceed file size
limits.
- Autoconf file upgrade, with testing for large file system support,
auto-configuration of _FILE_OFFSET_BITS value.
- Extra tests to check 64-bit offset format files, including some
tests not part of the usual build tests.
- Simplified install/build proceedure.
- Revised documentation.
Version 3.6.1 - October 2005
- Portability enhancements - now compiles out of the box on many
more platforms.
- File-size canonicalization to help users detect file truncation
problems.
- Revised documentation.
- This is intended to be the last release which does not use
automake and libtool.
Version 4.0.0_alpha8 - October 2005
- NetCDF-4 features.
- F77 API on AIX works.
- F90 API works.
- Version 2 API fully supported.
- Removal of most netCDF-4 artifacts in HDF5 file.
- Use of HDF5 dimscales for netCDF shared dimensions.
- Interoperability (limited) with HDF5.
Version 4.0.0 alpha9 - December 2005
- Enum type added.
- NetCDF-4 verified support of common data model.
- ncdump support new features and NcML.
- No netCDF-4 artifacts in file.
- Uses HDF5 creation order information.
- NetCDF-4 documentation complete.
Version 4.0.0_beta - February 2006 (depends on prior release of HDF5 1.8.0)
- Adds UDUNITS to the netCDF distribution.
- alpha9, with bugfixes.
Version 4.1.0 alpha1 - March 2006
- Library support of NcML.
- Support for CDM (Common Data Model) coordinate systems.
- Full NcML support.
Version 4.0.0 - May 2006
This is 4.0.0_beta, with any necessary bugfixes.
Version 4.1.0 alpha2 - June 2006
- The C library implements scientific data objects support for Grid,
Radial, Point, Station, Trajectory, Image and Swath.
- Full CDM support in F90.
- ncgen support for new features and NcML.
- Documentation rewrite for fortran manual.
Version 4.1.0 alpha3 - July 2006
Version 4.1.0 beta - August 2006
- Beta release with all 4.1 features.
- Documentation of all CDM features.
