1.8 What's New Since the Previous Release?

This Guide documents the December 2004 release of netCDF 3.6.0, which introduces the first addition to the storage format of netCDF files, while maintaining full backward compatibility.

The new file format, netCDF 64-bit offset format, has fewer restrictions when creating large (2 GiByte or greater) files. Other changes include:

• New functions to set and get the default file creation mode.
• Revised documentation.
• Improved installation.
