11.14 Parallel I/O

Parallel I/O exploits parallel file systems on high-performance computing platforms.

NetCDF-4 uses HDF5's support for parallel I/O built on top of MPI-IO.
Vendors typically provide an optimized MPI-IO layer on top of their parallel file system implementation.
Special create and open calls are used to open a file for parallel data access.
An example of use of netCDF-4 and MPI for creating a file for parallel access is available in the netCDF User's Guide.
