TIRCAL

Calibrates POES (TIROS) areas.

Format

TIRCAL area [keyword]

Parameter

area

POES area number

Keyword

CAL=

FULL

applies a complete calibration (default)

QUICK

applies quick calibration

Remarks

Caution!
Do not run TIRCAL on TIP data.

The FULL option calibrates each group of five image lines throughout the entire area. The QUICK calibration uses the average calibration for the first five good lines and applies that calibration to the entire area; thus, it runs more quickly.

The quick calibrated data shows only slight differences visually. Do not rely on the quick calibration for scientific purposes. Temperature differences of 2° to 3° Kelvin with radiance differences have been observed at the end of GAC areas.

Examples

TIRCAL 4200

This entry applies a complete calibration to area 4200.

TIRCAL 4210 CAL=QUICK

This entry applies a quick calibration to area 4210.
