String Tables

When you create a string with the TE command, it is placed in the current string table. You lose the strings in the current table if you run TD or TU REST or you EXIT and restart McIDAS. Because the string table file (STRTABLE) is kept in the session's .mctmp subdirectory, it's deleted when you end your McIDAS session. To prevent this, move or copy STRTABLE to your $HOME/mcidas/data directory. Because the strings will be shared by all the sessions, this will increase the likelihood of conflicts if you run multiple McIDAS-X sessions from the same account.
