The Unidata McIDAS-XCD software package runs on the same platforms that Unidata McIDAS-X runs on except MacOS-X and Windows XP, which are not supported. Please see Supported Platforms for more information.
Unidata McIDAS-X must be installed in the account of the user mcidas according to the specifications in Installing McIDAS-X on Unix or MacOS Workstations.
The following must be adhered to:
In addition, the workstation must have enough disk space to run the McIDAS-XCD software package and store its data files. The table below lists the approximate disk space requirements per day for each data type decoded with the -XCD package. The space requirements were derived from the NOAAPORT broadcast in May 2005.
|
Data type |
Daily space requirements |
|---|---|
In addition, there is a static requirement of 1,152 MB for other -XCD files.
For example, assume your site receives the NOAAPORT broadcast and decodes all the text and MD data above. To store six days of this data online, your minimum space requirement will be 6(777) + 1,152 = 5,814 MB. If you also receive and store two days of GRID data, your minimum space requirements will be 5,814 + 2(10,000) = 25,814 MB. Adding two days of NEXRAD data increases the total to 25,814 + 2(6,200) = 38,214 MB.
