Meta files are useful in many instances where multiple users will be viewing the same sets of images, such as in classroom settings. By generating graphic output ahead of time, retrieval and display of products can be facilitated. NTRANS meta files may contain any graphics produced by the mapping and display programs, except radar and satellite images.
The environmental variable $NTRANS_META is used to point to a directory where meta files will be stored on your system for rapid retieval. The $NTRANS_META directory is expected to contain subdirectories which you will use to store products for typical classes. The Model Products menu searches the $NTRANS_META directory and creates selection buttons for each subdirectory it finds. Additionally, if you have a subdirectory called meta in your home directory, NTRANS will search that directory for files using the Local Products menu. Altenatively, you may use the file browser within NTRANS to locate your files.
To load a meta file using the directory browser, pull down the FILE
menu on the application menu bar and follow the OPEN menu
to the USER DEFINED option (you can also use <ctrl>+f as a
shortcut. The file browser lets you choose the directory and file to load.
