The POINT FORECAST SOUNDING SELECTION window allows the user to plot
forecast soundings stored in GEMPAK upper air format data files.
Typical sources of point forecast soundings include BUFR
encoded model output soundings which may be decoded into GEMPAK format
upper air files using NAMSND. PFC sounding files typically contain
forecast times, therefore the same validation time may exist in multiple
sounding files.
Point Forecast (or PFC) data may be displayed in NSHARP be selecting the "PFC Soundings"
selection from the "Load" Menu.
Select the PFC sounding data set type from the "File" menu.
After selecting the PFC source dataset, the available times will
be displayed in the "Sounding times" list.
A single or multiple times may be selected
from the list. A range of times is selected by clicking a starting
time and dragging the mouse pointer, or by selecting the first time
and then depressing <SHIFT> while selecting the second time.
Individual times may be added by depressing <CTRL> when selecting
additional times. Following selection of desired times, a display of available sounding locations
will be provided (using the most recent time if more than 1 time is selected).
Click on the desired station from the plot of soundings available for this time.
