9.0.4 NMAP Product Generation
NMAP can be used for interactive product generation. Tools provided allow the user to create, annotate, draw, and modify georeferenced objects such as is demonstrated in the $GEMPAK/data/test.vgf file.

Upon entering the product generation mode, a pallete of drawing tools is available which provides many useful drawing and meteorological tools. See the online help for specific information on the function of each tool.

When creating a product, you can set the underlying display to any display frame or loop to be used as the basis for your analysis. Use the Hide Loop button to toggle the display of the underlying data.

The product generation creates navigated drawing commands in VGF format. These drawing commands can be saved to an output file using the VGF device driver, and optionally used as a data type within the display window or in GPMAP as an overlay for any other display. VGF values can also be used to update or create surface data sets using the SFVGSF program.

Other products may also be imported into NMAP as well by creating them using the VGF device driver. For example, by outputting a REDBOOK graphic to VGF format, it can be imported into NMAP for display, editing or manipulation. The image below shows the RADAR Labels REDBOOK graphic product used to annotate a composite NEXRAD grid.

NMAP also provides an interactive method for analyzing contours and creating a gridded data set based on the analysis (using GRPHGD). This data can even be interpolated back to station locations using GDGSFC.
