19.3 GEMPAK Objective Analysis Exercises
  1. Perform objective analyses for surface temperature as a function of convergence parameter GAMMA. Use the following values: Plot a 4 panel graphic showing the comparison. HINT: Create your grid file, and make 3 additional copies.

  2. Perform objective analyses of surface temperature using search values of 5, 10, 20 and 50 (GAMMA = 0.3). Plot a 4 panel graphic to compare search radii.

  3. Contour the analysis of temperature for GAMMA=.3, SEARCH=20. Overlay the actual surface temperature observations. Check for evidence of bad data, smoothing, or misplaced maximas and minimas.

  4. Grid the 12Z upperair data for today. Compare the 850, 700, 500, and 300mb analyzed heights with those from the 12Z ETA model analysis. A 4 panel plot would be nice!. Do you suspect any strange results, particularly at lower levels out west?
