Purpose of GEMPAK status report

The activities carried out toward GEMPAK development and support fulfill the following endeavors as described in the Unidata 2008 NSF proposal:

Responding to a broader and more diverse community

GEMPAK use has expanded through use in METEOForum.
Development of new functionality to improve interaction of GEMPAK with GIS applications is undertaken.
Comprehensive support services

Ongoing support services include answering support questions, maintaining package information, training materials, and documentation, and engineering and providing installation services. Collaboration with developers at NCEP and other locations provides a broad spectrum of knowledge as a resource to the community.
Software to analyze and visualize geo-science data

GEMPAK provides the Unidata community with a comprehensive analysis and display package comprised of data decoders and tools to manipulate data from a wide variety of sources. Unidata leverages development efforts within NCEP and NWS to provide users access to operational and research capabilities for both classroom and research efforts.
