Cooperative Opportunity for NCEP Data Using IDD Technology (CONDUIT)

(C2)
Kelvin Droegemeier, OU-CAPS

The C2 community is responsible for developing strategies for Internet access to real time (streaming) meteorological observations, as well as output from both experimental and operational forecast models, for use by the education and research communities. CRAFT and CONDUIT began as components of the US Weather Research Program (USWRP)-Scientific Steering Committee (SSC). The SSC and the Interagency Working Group (IWG) of the USWRP recommended that the datasets be included in Unidata's Internet Data Distribution (IDD)* Eventually, the access and distribution of Level II NEXRAD (CRAFT) data transitioned to the NWS and university providers selected by the NWS to provide the data to the growing community.

Working collaboratively with the interested stakeholders, the C2 group follows updates and status of the CRAFT project and makes suggestions regarding possible changes to transition into the project. Merging the CONDUIT and CRAFT planning efforts is consistent with the charge and technologies being utilized to serve their stakeholders, and represents an effective mechanism for meeting the needs of the diverse community.

December 2005 Update : There are 134 radars included in CRAFT.
