- Eighteen case studies are now available. All are
available for online search, browse, and FTP download.
- The amount of data downloaded and the number of web hits
have both increased over the last three months.
In the three months since the last Executive Summary, several
things have been accomplished involving both case study data
and building the community of users.
Data and Infrastructure
- Upper Midwest Severe Weather, COMET Case 018, May 30- June 1, 1998, was announced to users and is available with full online access through the CODIAC system
- Desert Southwest Severe Weather, COMET Case 017, 7-8 August
1997, was announced to users and is available with full
online access through the CODIAC system.
- Moberly, Missouri Tornado, COMET Case 016, 4 July
1995, was announced to users and is available with
full online access through the CODIAC system.
Community Building
- Elizabeth Page presented information on the COMET Case Study Library at the Central Region Sub-regional SOO meeting held in Kansas City on Feb. 21-25. This meeting included the SOOs from the Dodge City, Wichita, and Topeka offices in Kansas; Springfield, St. Louis, and Pleasant Hill offices in Missouri; and Omaha, NE. The Development and Operations Hydrologist (DOH) from the Missouri Basin RFC also attended.
- Elizabeth Page is continuing to work with the NCDC to establish an archive of NOAAPORT data to support case study development in the AWIPS era.
- The AMS Interactive Information and Processing Systems (IIPS) for Meteorology, Oceanography, and Hydrology will hold a special session which will be co-chaired by Unidata's Linda Miller. We invite and encourage all Unidata and
university collaborators to submit papers for the AMS-IIPS Special Session.
Our case study usage statistics (subscribers to the
casestudies e-mail list, tape requests, data downloads,
and web hits) continue to increase. For details on all the current usage statistics, see the
Detailed Statistics page.
Past statistics and current plots of web hits and data downloaded are also available on the
Case Studies Usage Statistics Page.
Development of more case studies continues, giving us more
case studies to load into the CODIAC system. Future cases
include:
- Case 19: OK City F5 Tornado (May 3, 1999)
- Case 20: Pennsylvania Tornado (June 2, 1998)
See the
Case Study Status page
We will continue our efforts to make the case
studies easier to access and use by the user community. These
efforts will include keeping our web site up to date and
helping with enhancements to the CODIAC system.
In our continuing efforts to expand the user community, we
will continue to give presentations and publish papers on this
project.
We are tracking the data format issues arising from the NWS
modernization efforts. We plan to configure the CODIAC system
so that future cases can be downloaded in raw data formats,
GEMPAK formats, or AWIPS formats.
