Tamara Ledley <tamara_ledley@terc.edu>
Tamara is very interested in having TERC take the lead on the proposal. After talking with Mike Mayhew she has come to the conclusion that the RFP will not support development of educational materials -- similar to the earlier conclusion that it would not support development of softare tools.
The direction this seems to be heading is a proposal which mainly consists of a set of workshops involving data providers, tool builders, educational materials developers, and perhaps faculty, teachers and students eventually. Initially the workshops may focus on undergrad faculty, but they would eventually expand to K-12 as well. The workshops would have a highly technical segment that would be a follow on to the DAWG and to the initial THREDDS Technical Task Force initiatives. There has been discussion of separate technical workshops, but the current leaning is to simplify by having combining the two, but perhaps having the technical segment before the more user oriented segment. One question to consider is how these workshops would relate to the DLESE annual meeting.
Tamara and TERC are not now part of THREDDS, but we have had several discussions on possible joint efforts with THREDDS and EET: in fact one of these discussions was at the DAWG workshop.
As of now, Tamara and TERC are definitely taking the lead on the proposal.
"Michael R. Taber,2470" <mrtaber@bentley.unco.edu>
Mike has also expressed an interest in taking the lead on the proposal, but is still mulling it over. Mike and Tamara Ledley have talked to each other about the proposal and apparently have come to some understanding as to how they might work together on aspects of the project -- with Tamara as the lead PI.
Mike is not part of THREDDS, but we've discussed the possibility several times. He is an avid user of the tools provided by Danny Edelson of Northwestern.
Sara Graves <sgraves@itsc.uah.edu> or Ken Keiser <keiser@itsc.uah.edu>
The UAH group has some creative ideas about how the Earth Science Markup Language fits in with educational materials cataloging systems. However, it remains to be worked out how this fits into the limited scope of the proposal. Clearly ESML would be an important topic for discussion at the technical and user segments of any proposed workshops.
UAH is part of THREDDS both as a data provider and for metadata expertise (ESML). Rahul Ramachandran has been our main THREDDS technical contact, but Sara Graves and Ken Keiser.
Ken and Sara have indicated that they want to participate in the proposal as a workshop participant/presenter and will probably cover both their data holdings and their work with ESML.
Howard Burrows <ghburrows@attbi.com>
Howard has a view that ESIP Federation members can contribute to all four track of the RFP and should submit a proposal that has components in all four tracks.. This is a different interpretation of the RFP from that of most others and needs clarification.
Howard is not a THREDDS participant, but has been very interested in THREDDS. Tamara has been in touch with Howard who apparently is on board in some fashion now.
Bruce has expressed a desire to participate in the data services proposal and would be pleased to present their tools at workshops. He also indicates that he'd be willing to participate whether Tamara and TERC or Unidata/THREDDS take the lead.
Bruce Caron and the New Media Studio are THREDDS participants as suppliers of data analysis tools that can be used to incorporate datasets into educational materials.
."Pramod Jain, INDENT" <pramod@indent.org>
Yes, we would be very interested in participating in workshops like the one
you mentioned. It would be nice if a modest travel expense (say max of $500) can be paid as
part of the budget. This would help out small businesses like us.thanks
pramod"Pramod Jain and Indent, Inc. are not THREDDS participants.
"Daniel C. Edelson" <d-edelson@northwestern.edu>
Danny is currently developing java-based myworld GIS data access, analysis and display software. Given the limited nature of the RFP, this development work could not be supported. However, this group would be a valuable contributor to data services workshops.
Currently Danny's group is not a THREDDS participant, but we are working to bring him into the fold -- especially his new java-based MyWorld tool which enables access to,. and analysis and visualization of GIS data..
