Examples Using the IDV for Data Analysis and Display

Before you start

This document has embedded pointers to authentic environmental datasets and a powerful tool (the Unidata Integrated Data Viewer, IDV) for interacting with those datasets. In order to use the tool you have to get the Java Webstart system running and preferable on a powerful computer with a lot of memory. But, you only have to install the WebStart program once and you'll be able to access data via the IDV as often as you like after that. Webstart will download the latest version of the IDV the first time you try to access it. After that, it will only download the program when a new version is available.

For instructions on loading WebStart, go to The Unidata WebStart Instruction Page.

After, installing Webstart come back here and launch the IDV with special datasets by clicking on one of the list items below.

Once Web Start is installed, you only click here to start the IDV every time.

For additional information on starting the IDV through Web Start, see the IDV User's Guide and the FAQ.
Go to Unidata's home page.
