axis labels placement

In the tutorial, if 2 variables are mapped to Display.YAxis, their axis labelling are placed such that both are visible, one to 
the left of the other.  I cannot replicate this.  I have looked at the api for AxisScale and see no setPosition calls.  Am I 
missing something obvious?
