read data from a file

Hi,

There is Anyone which has an example to read the data from text file?  I  couldn?t run the examples of this page :   http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/~billh/README.text

my file :

x            y          z

123.     456.      623.

234.     245.     567.

678.    456.     783.

.............

functional description looks like:
     (x,y) --> ( z )
