There is a new release of Unidata's Gridded Data Viewer prototype tool
and our source code for the MetApps project.  For more information, see

Please note that the MetApps tools are only prototypes and are not
supported.  They are being used to create and test components from which
"real" applications can be built.  All software is licensed under the
Lesser GNU Public License (LGPL).

A new release (2001-04-05) of the Gridded Data Viewer is available for
testing. This new release includes many new features since the last
release (November 2000) including:

Easier download and installation using Webstart

In the main GDV window (2D viewer)

     Access to data files on DODS servers 
     adjustable height of vertical cross-section with a slider 
     labels on cross sections 

In the 3D Viewer

     The user interface was redesigned and number of controls
        was increased. 
     The display can show data from multiple parameters 
        simultaneously. 
     The display can show 2D data as contours, pseudo-color 
        images, or both. 
     The display can show 3D data with surfaces, horizontal
        and vertical cross-sections, and vertical profiles. 
     The cross-sections can be moved into any position. 
     Every display of data has its own controls for 
        appearance. 
     The user can change contour lines to any value; can 
        choose among colors. 
     The viewer automatically creates the derived quantity 
        wind speed from u and v wind components if they are 
        both present.
