I seem to have tripped over the same bug that was mentioned previously.
I am, as well, working with lat., lon., and alt; the error message I get
is precisely the same.

Is this bug still in the VisAD source? I realize you state right above
that it isn't, but I'm not sure how hairy the bug is, so I thought I
would ask for an update.
