Unstructured grids

As quite new to VisAD, I was wondering if it was a general purpose
software or if
it was designed especially for some physics (Meteo applications, ...)
dealing with
structured meshes. I would like to visualize either CAD or results of
FEM simulations.
Do you know if some people have already tried this ?
