Serving remote datasets with the NetCDF server

Hi Rich,

John should be back in the office tomorrow and will be able to give a
more definitive answer. However, I don't see anything in the code that
would restrict the netCDF server from working on remote datasets. We
currently have our motherlode.ucar.edu server setup to provide ncServer
access only for local NCEP GRIB data but from what I'm seeing it appears
we could set it up to work with any dataset (local or remote) as long as
it is gridded and follows a convention the netCDF-java library understands.

Sorry, just realized that I might not be answering the question you were
asking. Were you asking: 1) Can a TDS be setup to serve local or remote
data via the netCDF Server? Or 2) Can a TDS that publishes a netCDF
Server handle a URL for a remote dataset that the TDS isn't already
configured to serve?

My first paragraph above tries to answer question 1.

If you are asking the second question, I don't see anything in the code
that would handle that.

Sorry for the confusion.

Ethan
