Subject: Amended: Additions, Deletions, Changes to NAM and RUC
(RAP) BUFR Stations and Additional and Removed Stations
in NCEP NAM Soundings Collectives on NOAAPORT:
Effective date set for May 1, 2012.

Amended to set the implementation date for Tuesday May 1, 2012.
Users are cautioned that if a Critical Weather Day (CWD)
designation is in effect on May 1, this implementation will be
delayed until the conclusion of CWD. You can monitor the CWD
status at the following webpage:

Effective on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, beginning with the 1200
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) model distribution, the National
Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) will modify the list
of stations for which BUFR data are generated for both the North
American Mesoscale (NAM) and Rapid Refresh (RAP) models. The
changes will also modify the lists of stations in the North
American Mesoscale (NAM) model BUFR sounding collectives
disseminated on NOAAPORT.

For the NAM and RAP lists, the new stations are listed in Table 1
and the stations being removed are listed in Table 2. This change
corresponds with the implementation of the Rapid Refresh (RAP) to
replace the Rapid Update Cycle (RUC).

The NAM and RUC have always used the same station list, but many
of the stations fall outside of the RUC domain and are not used
by the model. The larger RAP domain will allow data for many more
of the NAM stations to be used in the RAP output.

The lists below do not cover existing stations in the list that
are outside of the RUC domain but inside the RAP domain. It deals
only with actual changes to the list itself. Also note that the
NAM nests use the same station list as the parent 12 km NAM, so
any changes to the list involving locations within a particular
nest impact that nests BUFR output as well.

The numerical and character identifications are provided:

000620 C20 Canada/Great Lakes
000621 C21 Canada/Great Lakes

The following changes are being made to the station lists:

-Station 000020 (nr. Watertown, SD) is moved from 44.80 N, 96.70
W TO 45.80 N, 97.45 W and will now be known as (Marshall County
RAWS). The character identification is changed from WTT to MRLS.

-Station 727790 (KGPI) now represents Glacier Park Intl instead
of Kalispell/Glacier. There is no change to the numerical or
character identification.

-Station 000057 (Lewis Range of Rockies, MT) is moved from 48.00
N, 113.00 W to 48.32N, 113.35 W and will now be known as Marias
Pass, MT. The character identification is changed from LRR TO
MRP.

-Station 000617 (Northern Rockies, MT) is moved from 46.00 N,
114.00 W to 46.25 N, 114.15 W and will now be known as Hamilton
MT. The character identification is changed from C17 to HMM.

The changes to the BUFR station lists will result in no changes
to the WMO headers of the NOAAPORT soundings collectives. The
headers listed in Table 3, below, are used today and these
headers will continue to be used. There will also be no change
to the BUFR format of the products except that new stations will
be included in the collectives. The new stations as well as
those being eliminated appear in Table 4, below.
