SUBJECT:        Changes to the NWS Production Suite




    Items 1255-1261, the HYSPLIT package, were successfully tested and 
implemented at 19Z on Tuesday, 18 December.

1.  The annual December moratorium on changes to the CCS Production 
Suite began at close of business on next Tuesday, 18 December and will 
end on Tuesday, 8 January.

2.  As of 28 November 2007, no further JIFS should be entered into the 
current Lotus Notes database.  Please hold the submission of new change 
requests until 8 January 2008.  Emergency/CRISIS changes should be 
entered using the modified Request For Change (RFC) Form located at

 http://www2.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/director/cm

 and emailed to

 NCEP.LIST.CMO at noaa.gov

3.  The modified Request For Change (RFC) located in the Lotus Notes 
database is tentatively scheduled for implementation at 12Z on 8 January 
2008.

4.  All NCEP model derived GRIB1 data currently residing on the NCEP and 
TOC FTP servers will be removed on 28 January 2008.  Equivalent GRIB2 
data sets are available on both servers.  NOAAPORT data will not be 
impacted by this change.

NCEP provides software to convert GRIB2 formatted data back into GRIB1. 
Please use the link below to obtain the software utility to convert 
formats:

Information regarding product equivalents for GRIB1 and GRIB2 on the NWS 
FTP TOC servers (tgdata.nws.noaa.gov and tgftp.nws.noaa.gov) and NCEP 
ftp server (ftp.ncep.noaa.gov) can be found via the link below:

Please direct all questions concerning the GRIB software codes to 
NCEP.NCO.GRIB at noaa.gov.

5.  Upcoming major changes to NCEP's production suite and details on any 
product or timing changes associated with upcoming implementations can 
be viewed at the following website:

Test data for each of these proposed changes should be available six 
weeks prior to implementation.  Anyone wishing to receive formal notice 
of the final pre-implementation testing and the opportunity to provide
