[netcdf-hdf] announcement: support for reading HDF4/HDF-EOS and HDF5/HDF5-EOS in 100% Java library

Hello to all:

An early-access release (4.0.09) of NetCDF-Java now has support for reading HDF4/HDF-EOS and
HDF5/HDF5-EOS files, through an extended NetCDF API (aka "Common Data Model").

This is downloadable from the home page at:

  http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf-java/

We are looking for beta testers to try this and report any problems and suggestions. Because HDF4
and HDF5 file formats are complex, we need to test as many different files as possible.

In the simplest case, open HDF4/HDF5/NetCDF4 files with the ToolsUI program:

  http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf-java/v4.0/webstart/netCDFtools.jnlp

Comparing results with the existing HDF4/HDF5/NetCDF4 C libraries would especially be appreciated.
Parsing and using the EOS metadata is an ongoing effort which we would also appreciate suggestions
about.

Please forward this message to anyone interested in beta-testing access of these files through a
Java library.
