After you create the cdl file, edit it so that only the geopotential height variable is left. don't 
delete the coordinate or the nav type vars or it will not work. gribtonc will complain about missing vars
in the cdl but that's ok.  The gribtonc program is being deprecated so you should look at our THREDDS
server at http://motherlode.ucar.edu:8080/thredds or download the ToolsUI program at:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf-java/v2.2/webstart-dev/index.html.  Both these programs have
the capability of extracting only the vars that you want.
