Area of Interest: Synoptic Dynamic Meteorology - Forecasting. As the Meteorology department technician, Sys-admin, part-time instructor, and resident meteorologist I have a general interest in the entire Unidata Suite of products. I'm most interested improving my understanding of the Unidata programs so I can continue to bring quality real time data and analysis tools to SJSU.
Tell us how you use the Unidata tools in your classroom or reseach: (some of the more general uses are as follows) I use MCIDAS in an atmospheric science lab course for non science majors. We also use MCIDAS in synoptic lab for Satellite Imagery, NLDN, and text data. We use Garp for quick overview in the Synoptic Lab We have a series of gempak scripts which run daily and produce Ntrans meta files for specific areas of interest to our forecasting class. We use the raw model data to initialize RAMS in operational and research mode.
General comments: As a relative neophyte in the Unidata community I'm afraid I don't have much to contribute. But I am psyched to learn from others how they are using the Unidata tools.
