SUBJECT: Summer Workshop - Logistical Information

We are looking forward to your attendance at the 1997 Summer Workshop, "Using Instructional Technologies and Satellite Data for College-Level Education in the Atmospheric and Earth Sciences," being held June 23 - 27, 1997, in Boulder, Colorado.

Agenda: A copy of the most recent program schedule is attached. Current information about the workshop can be found on the Web at: /

Dorm Assignments: Single room reservations have been made at Williams Village, University of Colorado, located at 500 30th Street in Boulder.

Check-In: The room check-in desk is located in the Commons - the building located behind South Darley Tower at the southeast corner of the property - and is staffed 24-hours per day. You will be given two keys - one for the entrance to the building and one for your individual room. Each room provides a telephone, single beds with bedding and linens, daily maid service, and air-conditioning. Rooms do not provide televisions, radios, alarm clocks or wake-up calls. You may wish to bring an alarm clock.

Check-Out : The check-out deadline will be 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27. If you would like to check out in the morning, you may leave your luggage at the check-in desk in the Commons and it will be placed in a locked room.

Reception: A reception will be held at Williams Village on Sunday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m. At this time, you will receive a workshop packet including a final program schedule, a name badge which will serve as your meal ticket for lunch each day, and a list of participants and affiliations. You will also receive the $100 honorarium, incorrectly referred to as a stipend, which is taxable to the recipient. If you plan to arrive late, please let me know so we can arrange a time to talk at the conference in order to complete the paperwork to receive your honorarium.

Meals: Meals will be provided each day beginning on Monday with breakfast from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. in the Williams Village Commons; lunch will be provided in UCAR's cafeteria (be sure to wear your name badge!); and dinner provided at the Commons from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The last meal of the workshop will be lunch on Friday in UCAR's cafeteria at noon. In addition, there are a variety of restaurants near the dorms if you prefer to eat off-campus.

Ground Transportation and Parking:

Parking: There are parking areas located near Williams Village east of 30th Street along Baseline Road and also off of 30th Street just south of the Commons. If you drive your personal vehicle to Boulder or rent a car, you will need to request a parking permit when checking into Williams Village. The $15 weekly parking permit will be charged directly to Unidata.

There is no charge for parking and a permit is not required at UCAR's facilities on Mitchell Lane in northeast Boulder - the location for the workshop sessions.

Boulder Airporter Shuttle Service: A schedule and information regarding Boulder Airporter service is attached. One-way is approximately $15 between Denver International Airport and Boulder. The Airporter stops every hour on the hour at the Broker Inn which is across the street from Williams Village. Reservations are not accepted for the trip from DIA to Boulder. You must purchase a ticket at the Boulder Airporter counter just prior to your departure from DIA.

Ground Transportation for Workshop Sessions/Cookout: Charter bus transportation will be provided each day departing from Williams Village at 8:00 a.m. The buses will return to Williams Village in the evening departing from the front of UCAR's Foothills Lab location at 5:15 p.m. On Friday, the bus will depart from UCAR's Foothills Lab location at 1:15 p.m. to return to Williams Village.

Transportation to the evening cookout on Flagstaff Mountain will be provided by buses leaving from Williams Village at 5:30 p.m. and returning again at 7:30 p.m. Everyone participating in the cookout, including those participants not staying at Williams Village, must use the bus service to attend this event.
