The Unidata Program Center has scheduled a user training workshop for the period of July 20 - August 6, 2005. The workshop will consist of 5 consecutive sessions devoted to Unidata application packages and projects.
Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) Session A: July 20 - 21 (Wednesday - Thursday)The IDV is Unidata's newest analysis and visualization tool. The workshop will cover installing and configuring the IDV, loading, displaying, and manipulating data, creating custom diagnostic functions, and Jython scripting. If there is sufficient interest, the workshop will also cover developer issues such as creating custom applications, adding new data sources, and displays.
LDM Session A: July 22 - 23 (Friday - Saturday)This session will cover LDM site administration. Topics will include LDM installation, configuration, tuning, and maintenance. Also covered will be troubleshooting the LDM and its network connections. Attendees will be expected to have a working knowledge of Unix and Internet networking, including the following:
- file-systems
- system-logging
- user-account administration
- installing packages from source code
- general concepts of Internet Protocol networking
Note: Workshop material will cover one and one-half days. The afternoon of the second day will be available for those who would like assistance remotely installing, upgrading, or tuning their LDM installations.
GEMPAK: July 25 - 27(Monday - Wednesday)This workshop will describe how to use the GEMPAK package in a variety of real-time and research contexts. Topics covered will include general design concepts, graphical user interfaces, writing interactive and batch scripts, configuring decoders and data tables, use with archived and case study data sets, output device drivers, and data formats.
LDM Session B: July 28 - 29 (Thursday - Friday)LDM Sessions A and B will cover the same material. We are opening two sessions to accommodate more people. Please refer to the description for LDM Session A.
Data access in McIDAS follows a client-server architecture known as the Abstract Data Distribution Environment (ADDE). This workshop will focus
on ADDE concepts from both client and server perspectives including creating and publishing datasets. Additional topics will include:
McIDAS-X system installation and setup; installation and configuration of the McIDAS-XCD (McIDAS decoders for NOAAPORT datastream data) and LDM-MCIDAS packages (Unidata-Wisconsin datastream decoders); McIDAS scripting facilities; and manipulation of locally-held and remote image, point, and grid datasets.Note: We will attempt to cover all workshop material in four full days. Experience in previous workshops has shown, however, that most attendees stay for a fifth full day to address additional topics and solve site-specific issues.
IDV Sessions A and B will cover the same material. We are opening two sessions to accommodate more people. IDV C is reserved for UCAR staff. Please refer to the description for IDV Session A.

Cost:
There are no registration fees to attend the Training Workshop, however
attendees are responsible for their own travel, lodging, meals, etc. We are unfortunately not able to provide interpreters for international guests.
Acceptance:
On-line registration requests will be considered on a first come, first served basis, with priority
given to educational institutions from April 1 to May 15. Enrollment in each session will be limited
to 18 people due to the size of our training room. Non-educational institutions will be accepted on a space available basis after May 15.
Please be aware that we review all registration requests before issuing confirmations.
This means that after completing the on-line registration form, your status
is pending until we send you a confirmation e-mail.
