Boston Musuem of Science Globe Photo

The spinning globe makes SSEC's "Rotating Globe" a physical reality using specially designed hardware and software to project 2 weeks worth of their global satellite composite onto a digital rotating globe.

 

"The Storm Shack" offers visitors an immersive simulated severe weather experience. The skylight is actually an LCD display.

"Leif's Bedroom" alternates the main display between realtime and timelapse imagery from the Museum's weather cam with fixed displays demonstrating how basic phenomenon appears visually such as cold and warm fronts. The main display can be switched to Unidata IDV if desired by a presenter.

The Fog Tornado often attracts visitors to the WeatherWise exhibit, located in the Museum's famous Theater of Electricity.

The WeatherWise exhibit features several interactive kiosks where visitors can explore basic weather and nowcasting concepts. Most archived and realtime data is from the Unidata IDD. This photo captures just part of the exhibit.

The museum's WeatherWise virtual exhibit follows local meteorologist for CBS4, Mish Michaels, through the process of creating a weather forecast for the news. Users can then create their own short-term, local forecasts, or nowcasts.
